Back To School Basics

Back To School Basics Back To School Basics That You Actually Use In University

I am in University. This means that I have a back to school supply list I make, and then dread buying because school is so expensive. On top of the things I find myself purchasing every year I also have buy once staples. So here are my back to school basics.

One and Dones:

Laptop – This is my baby. I bought a 13″ MacBook Air for school and have used it absolutely every single day. This laptop is lightweight for me to lug around all day. I live off campus so I have it on me my entire time on campus. You definitely don’t  need to buy that laptop, but I use mine for everything. I take my notes, type assignments, send emails, and basically live my school life on it.

Bag – This is not necessarily a one and done for everyone. But I bought an expensive bag so I better use it a long time. I purchased a Ralph Lauren handbag which I know fits my laptop. It is genuine leather and gorgeous. This is where I chose to invest. I had a handbag the year before that was not very sturdy and it made carrying my laptop in it a nervous experience.  So I upgraded.

Common Purchases:

Weekly Planner – I use a Moleskine journal for my weekly planner. I like to start fresh with a new one every year. Typically it goes from September – August, or July – June.

Pens – I love pens. Specifically the Staples Strata 0.5 Black Ink Pen. It is so fine and is great in my bullet journal. It also allows me to write very small, which is how I write. And my notes don’t look so bold. I don’t bother with white out. I just scratch it out.

Pencils – I’m taking Statistics and Calculus so a pencil is necessary along with the sharpeners and erasers. Also, I like to have really cheap pencils in my bag in case someone needs to borrow one. I am not lending out my beloved pens. Ever.

Pencil Case – Not necessary. But mine get so messy. It’s actually gross how messy it is by the end of the year. I have tried everything under the sun. Different colours, shapes, sizes, patterns. still nasty.

Misc – This is highlighters, lined paper, ruler, etc.

Nudestix Review.

Nudestix Review You But Better Natural Makeup For Lazy Girls Like Me

Let’s be honest. I am not one for being makeup obsessed. I am so lazy when it comes to everyday makeup. If you have seen my past makeup collection you know that I don’t go wild with my purchases. I am definitely quality over quantity.  Somewhat recently I purchased Nudestix Nudies All Over Face Colour Bronze + Glow in the shade Illumi-Naughty. I have never been so in love with a highlight. So here is my Nudestix review.

I am very dry. So incredibly dry. I strive to have healthy glowy skin. From the first moment I swatched it in Sephora I was in love. This is not an extreme shine. It is not metallic. Nor is it not glittery or chunky. It creates a natural dewy shine. If I had to describe it perfectly it would be that you appear to sweat in the most gorgeous way. Weird, I am aware, but trust me it is so beautiful. I have worn it every day since. This lead me to purchase the Nudestix Nudies All Over Face Colour Matte in Bondi Bae.

Bondi Bae

I also swatched this one in the store so I knew it was just as creamy. I purchased it online after I fell in love with Illumi-Naughty. It is just a really good colour for bronzer. The shade is definitely meant for fair skin tones, as are most of the products due to the creators being from Canada and fair themselves. It is the perfect balance between neutral and warm shades. It is not too ashy like a lot of shades targeted for the very pale, and not too orange because bronzer is almost always orange on me.

Bare Back

Once I got the bronzer in Bondi Bae I knew I wanted a blush shade. There are three blush shades for my skin tone, Deep Maple Eh is too dark for my taste. So Bare Back was the one I chose. It is a light pink that leans more on the cool side. It is very natural looking. Almost like a flush to the cheeks. The formula is also a matte finish. All of the products have a built in brush on the other end which is detachable so it is easy to clean. Due to laziness, I find myself almost exclusively using the brush attached, and it works way better than I had expected.

I have been using the products for a few weeks now and I am so very pleased with my purchases. My skin looks like me but better. I could tell people I’m not wearing any makeup and they would totally believe me. I use these on top of my Make Up For Ever Water Blend Foundation to round off the very natural makeup look.

If you have tried any Nudestix products I would love to your thoughts.

Current Makeup Collection.

Current Makeup Collection July High-End Makeup Collection

I have an exclusively high-end makeup collection at the moment. I don’t use makeup every day, therefore, I can afford to splurge on more expensive products. There is absolutely nothing wrong with drugstore makeup, however, I typically aim for quality over quantity in the items I own like makeup and clothes. I am very fair in complexion, so sometimes my options are quite limited. I shop at Sephora because their online shipping is easy and the Beauty Insider account is a bonus.

Makeup Collection:

  • Face Primer. Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer was a birthday gift from my sister, and I have used it every time I wear makeup since. It is moisturizing and feels really good on the skin. It has a gentle scent that is not chemically.
  • Foundation. I use Make Up For Ever Water Blend Face & Body Foundation. It is a light coverage buildable product that gives me the moisture I crave in face products. The finish is more on the dewy side, and can almost appear as a tinted moisturizer when applied with a sponge. I use shade Y215.
  • Concealer. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly is perfect for me. It is basically the colour of my skin and is more of a medium coverage when applied with a sponge making it easy to cover my very dark undereye area.
  • Eyeshadow. My very first Sephora purchase was the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. I to this day love it. I am not very adventurous when it comes to makeup, so this palette has everything I need.
  • Eyeliner. I got Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer. I don’t use eyeliner often so I don’t have much of an opinion on it.
  • Eyebrows. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Blonde is perfect for taming my crazy brows and filling in the patchy spots in a way that is not overly dramatic.
  • Lipstick.
    • Pink Lipstick. Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien is a gorgeous satin pink with a gold iridescence. I first got this for a birthday present from Sephora.
    • Rose Lipstick. Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Creme Lipstick in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang has gone unused so far because I am saving it for an occasion.
    • Red Lipstick. The birthday gift in 2015 included Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella. It is not drying compared to other matte lipsticks I have tried, but I look like snow white with such a bright colour so save it for Halloween.
  • Setting Powder. My setting powder is almost a very subtle highlighter. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Etherial Light provides an almost-white glow that compliments my complexion more than any other I have tried.
  • Setting Spray. It’s more of a face mist that I use to set my makeup. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Marine Boosting Mist is perfect for natural makeup for those with dry skin.

Boyfriend Gift Ideas.

Boyfriend Gift Ideas What To Get Your Boyfriend Or Husband For His Birthday

It was my man’s birthday this week and I was so excited to show him what was picked special for him. I made him a 100+ page book of edible plants, berries, and mushrooms from where we live and he was ecstatic, to say the least. It took weeks. No joke. But it was completely worth it to see his reaction. On top of that, I got him an instant camera. He adored it, to say the least. I was smiling ear to ear all day. One birthday well done. You might not have an idea in mind so here are some boyfriend gift ideas.

If you are clueless as to what to get your man for his birthday here are some ideas:

Idea #1 A Camera. It is a romantic way to capture your future together. I went with an Instant Camera* which perfectly fits our love for retro cameras while still being technologically advanced. You could also get Disposable Cameras* or a Digital Camera*.

Idea #2 A Blanket. I made my man a blanket for Christmas because he is so tall that they never cover his toes. He absolutely loved it, even before he knew I made it.

Idea #3 His Favourite Movie. These days it is less likely to own a physical copy of a movie. If you get the actual DVD it can be a sweet gesture or a VHS for nostalgia.

Idea #4 A Sweater. If you are prone to stealing his sweaters it is always appreciated to have more.

Idea #5 Car Stuff. This can range from a remote starter to a steering wheel cover, or even a safety kit. Everyone likes a little perk to their vehicle, especially if he tends not to buy comfort items for their’s because it is a want, not a need.

Wedding Gift Ideas 2017.

Wedding Gift Ideas 2017 Perfect Gift Ideas For Weddings 2017

You all know what that means, not only are your weekends filled with fancy clothes and late nights but wedding gifts. When attending a wedding it is customary to bring a gift for the bride and groom. Usually, people have a money box, or a gift registry set up. But, sometimes you just want to get them something that showed you put a lot of thought in. Purchasing a gift they spelled out for people can seem impersonal. Money can seem downright lazy, although greatly appreciated.

Here are some of my wedding gift ideas:

Idea #1 Gift Republic Name a Star Gift Box*. My absolute favourite unexpected gift idea. Technically no one can own a star, therefore name it, but the act of naming a star together seems so romantic to me.

Idea #2 Map Pillow.  More of a DIY, or paid service. Getting a pillow cover and ironing on a map of where the couple first met, or the town they live in is such a sentimental piece no one would think to ask for.

Idea #3 Overlooked Household Musts. Coasters for the new table, flowers need a vase, everyone has a favourite mug that doesn’t make the boring set.

Idea #4 House Plants. Aloe Vera is very low maintenance, yet is an easy solution for common kitchen cuts.

Do you have any wedding gift ideas I may have forgotten?

Are Posters Real Art.

Are Posters Real Art Are Posters A Real Form Of Artwork

My personal opinion of wall posters is a positive one.  I love movie, music, art posters. They are a completely valid form of artwork for your wall. I have on of my favourite pieces, a 6″x4″ version of A Starry Night by Vincent Von Gogh. I have it put up above my bed as if it were my headboard. Other than that I have a Rosie the Riveter 3″x2″ poster. It is framed for a more professional appeal. Personally, I prefer a colour scheme for rooms, so I have an eclectic feel with retro primary colours. But poster are pretty rad.

Here are my favourite posters at the moment:

Poster #1 Starry Night*. I absolutely love the painting. So much so that I got it in a 6″x4″ print. The poster to please those with a taste for more elegant or fine art.

Poster #2 Rosie the Riveter*. I am a big fan of showing off girl power. Rosie was a character created during the Second World War as a way of encouraging females to join the workplace because men were away at war.

Poster #3 Nuka Cola*. This is a vintage looking cola poster from a video game, Fallout, that I love. It fits my colour scheme and is more along the pinup style of portraying females.

Skincare Musts.

Skincare Musts My Morning And Evening Skincare Routine

I have two separate skincare routines for morning and evening. These are my skincare musts. My skin is very dry and it can be sensitive sometimes. I have blemishes more often when I have an increase in hormones. In order to combat against the likelihood of me having ver unpleasant skin, I have narrowed it down to a very simplified version to eliminate irritation.

Morning Skincare Routine:

Step #1 In the morning I wake up and have a shower, while in the shower at the end I wash my face with Fresh Soy Facial Cleanser using the Sephora Collection Precision Pore Cleaning Pad. The pad allows for very gentle exfoliation without causing any skin abrasions.

Step #2 Once I’m out of the shower I use Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner on any generic brand cotton pad. It is gentle enough to use twice a day and helps remove any makeup I may have missed.

Step #3 I then apply Josie Maran 100 Percent Pure Argan Oil Light liberally to my face. I am very dry, so adding oil is not a frightening idea for me. However, oily skin can occur if I use the original during the day.

Step #4 I then use Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream. It has an odour I am not fond of. Honestly, it smells like something my grandma would use, but it works very well.

Evening Skincare Routine:

Step #1 At night I dampen a cotton pad and wet my face, then use the same steps for cleanser and toner. More time is added to washing my face if I wore makeup that day. To be more thorough.

Step #2 After I apply Josie Maran 100 Pure Argan Oil, the original. It is more intense and concentrated so my face soaks in the moisture while I sleep.

Step #3 I use First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. It is far too heavy for the day. The thick cream can be used all over the body and is great for scaly patches in the winter.

On rare occasions I use face masks, should be more often, they can be quite expensive. My favourite is the Glamglow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment. It is quite expensive so I only use it on rare occasions and use it overnight to get the full effect.

Lifestyle Must Haves of February

Lifestyle Must Haves Of February My Favourites For The Month Of February

As of February, I have added some new favourites to my possessions. These are my must haves of February. I am focused on a more minimal lifestyle in terms of possessions. I have always preferred quality over quantity. As a kid, I would get one nice shirt when my sister would get five of the same cheap shirt in different colours because she liked quantity. As an adult, I try to simplify my life by not over cluttering my home, wardrobe, and life in general.

Must Haves of February:

Clothing and Accessories: I spent forever trying to find a perfect leather jacket. I finally found one that I’m really happy with. It’s faux black leather with an asymmetrical zipper. One thing that I absolutely can not stand for when I wear leather jackets is when it is asymmetrical when undone. This means that the fabric ends where it zips, instead of matching the shape on both sides.

Makeup: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light. I love a hint of glow, probably more than i should, but with dry skin it makes me look more lively. If you want a highlighter this as not it, however, if you want an overall subtle glow it is great. It isn’t chunks of glitter, that’s not a look I like to go for.

Home: I finally got another dream catcher. All of mine were eaten by mice when I moved and had all my possessions put into storage. I don’t know if they actually help, but it’s worth a shot. I don’t know if I believe in them, but it is reassuring.

Miscellaneous: I will be honest, I got back into American Horror Story and am diving right back into the deep end. I don’t know what it is but I enjoy it. I think what I like most is that every season is completely different except for the actors.
