How to Make Side Cash.

How to Make Side Cash I Started My Own Job And Here Is How I Did It

I am currently a student. But, it is currently summer, therefore there is an opportunity to make myself some money. How to make side cash if you will. However, when I have classes it is very difficult to find time to work with my ridiculously hectic schedule. I now have a better system in place for that. Finding a small family owned business that was not operating to its full potential was what I set out to do.  Now I’m working for them. I created a website, Facebook page, business email, and specifically for increased income instead of increased traffic, a Kijiji account.

Kijiji is used to list items. You can help a successful purchase be made for an item the company has, and if not it still increases traffic and awareness for the business. This is my side summer job which I have set up to be capable of continuing well into the school year to try and combat those crazy tuition costs.

If you would like to do the same here is how I would go about it:

Tip #1 Look for Small Businesses. A small business is far less likely to be reaching all of its potentials. Usually, the owner and manager are the same people. So they don’t have time to look for or do themselves the job you are proposing.

Tip #2 Think Social. Social Media is the way that a lot of advertising is done, and it can be completely free. Managing a Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are all ways to get more people to see that business without spending a cent.

Tip #3 Website Opportunities. Is there a way to get this business more profit online. A website can show locations, make appointments, or even order a product. When seeing a small bakery that doesn’t have the option to pre-order, propose a website that allows for birthday cakes to be customized with lettering in specific colours to be picked up on a certain day. Or, reserve an item in a clothing store to try on in store. The possibilities are only as big as your imagination.

Boyfriend Gift Ideas.

Boyfriend Gift Ideas What To Get Your Boyfriend Or Husband For His Birthday

It was my man’s birthday this week and I was so excited to show him what was picked special for him. I made him a 100+ page book of edible plants, berries, and mushrooms from where we live and he was ecstatic, to say the least. It took weeks. No joke. But it was completely worth it to see his reaction. On top of that, I got him an instant camera. He adored it, to say the least. I was smiling ear to ear all day. One birthday well done. You might not have an idea in mind so here are some boyfriend gift ideas.

If you are clueless as to what to get your man for his birthday here are some ideas:

Idea #1 A Camera. It is a romantic way to capture your future together. I went with a Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Instant Camera* which perfectly fits our love for retro cameras while still being technologically advanced. You could also get a disposable camera like the Kodak Single Use Cameras* or a digital camera like the Canon EOS Rebel T6i* depending on their preferences.

Idea #2 A Blanket. I made my man a blanket for Christmas because he is so tall that they never cover his toes. He absolutely loved it, even before he knew I made it.

Idea #3 His Favourite Movie. These days it is less likely to own a physical copy of a movie. If you get the actual DVD it can be a sweet gesture or a VHS for nostalgia.

Idea #4 A Sweater. If you are prone to stealing his sweaters it is always appreciated to have more.

Idea #5 Car Stuff. This can range from a remote starter to a steering wheel cover, or even a safety kit. Everyone likes a little perk to their vehicle, especially if he tends not to buy comfort items for their’s because it is a want, not a need.

How to Compliment.

How To Compliment Mistakes You Might Be Making When Giving Compliments

A Back-handed compliment is one of my least favourite things that people do. Saying “You look really nice” is a great thing to say to someone. “You actually look nice today” is a huge jerk move. Don’t do that. You are just a bitter human being if you need to tear someone down and make them thank you while doing it. You are so not a decent person if you do it intentionally, and if it is accidental, please correct yourself. But please, don’t be that person. I am all about loving yourself and others. The world would be a much better place if we felt comfortable openly sharing our positive feelings.

In high school, it was very common for the “popular” students to speak in back-handed compliments. Upon noticing this trend I spoke to my friends informing them of this behaviour. Some were shocked that they participated in sly wordplay. Others were well aware of it but didn’t realize the impact that it could have. This is me asking for those too afraid to. I know it is a common phrase “think before you speak” but I don’t think individuals put much thought before what they believe is a nice thing to say.

Here are ways to compliment someone better:

Tip #1 Don’t Specifically Exclude. If you are telling someone you like their outfit, don’t say “today” it makes it seem more like you dislike their outfit every other day. That turns it into an insult.

Tip #2 Smile. If you aren’t seemingly genuine it could seem like more of a sarcastic statement than a compliment. This creates the opposite emotion you are trying to create.

Tip #3 Compliments Aren’t Currency. There is not a limited number of compliments you can give. If you like something, tell someone. And do not be shy about it. If you see a painting someone painted tell everyone you loved it, appreciation is always welcome.

Wedding Gift Ideas 2017.

Wedding Gift Ideas 2017 Perfect Gift Ideas For Weddings 2017

You all know what that means, not only are your weekends filled with fancy clothes and late nights but wedding gifts. When attending a wedding it is customary to bring a gift for the bride and groom. Usually, people have a money box, or a gift registry set up. But, sometimes you just want to get them something that showed you put a lot of thought in. Purchasing a gift they spelled out for people can seem impersonal. Money can seem downright lazy, although greatly appreciated.

Here are some of my wedding gift ideas:

Idea #1 Gift Republic Name a Star Gift Box*. My absolute favourite unexpected gift idea. Technically no one can own a star, therefore name it, but the act of naming a star together seems so romantic to me.

Idea #2 Map Pillow.  More of a DIY, or paid service. Getting a pillow cover and ironing on a map of where the couple first met, or the town they live in is such a sentimental piece no one would think to ask for.

Idea #3 Overlooked Household Musts. Coasters for the new table, flowers need a vase, everyone has a favourite mug that doesn’t make the boring set.

Idea #4 House Plants. Aloe Vera is very low maintenance, yet is an easy solution for common kitchen cuts.

How to Clean Your Room.

How to Clean Your Room How To Clean Your Room And Keep It Clean

You wake up in the morning and the first thing you see is your bedroom. It is important that this space is stress-free for you. A messy room can start your day poorly. An overwhelming feeling is often created when seeing a large project. So you should find a way for how to clean your room. Often people will ignore the problem to prevent dealing with it, which will make it worse.

Here are some tips on how to clean your room:

Tip #1 It All Starts with Clothes. Check out Closets Edition.

Tip #2 Trays. I have serving trays all over my house. It is the best for giving purpose to anything. Next to my bed on my nightstand. Which is actually a step stool. Weird I know.  But seriously I have my necklace given to me by my boy, my ring box, lavender oil. I just put stuff on it that I want to stay out, and bam. It now has a purpose.

Tip #3 Put it on the Wall. Do not hesitate to put your stuff on the wall if you can. Put up shelves to display your aesthetically pleasing items. We all have ugly stuff too, so put that junk in a basket. Have a guitar? Mount that bad boy on the wall. Storage and decoration.

Tip #4 Rugs. Weird I know. But put a rug on the wall and your room looks instantly more put together. Plus it is super cozy and I think it looks really pretty.

Tip #5 Keep it Simple. If you stick to a colour pallet or your furniture to a certain style your room will look less cluttered before you add anything to it in terms of accessories.

Are Posters Real Art.

Are Posters Real Art Are Posters A Real Form Of Artwork

My personal opinion of wall posters is a positive one.  I love movie, music, art posters. They are a completely valid form of artwork for your wall. I have on of my favourite pieces, a 6″x4″ version of A Starry Night by Vincent Von Gogh. I have it put up above my bed as if it were my headboard. Other than that I have a Rosie the Riveter 3″x2″ poster. It is framed for a more professional appeal. Personally, I prefer a colour scheme for rooms, so I have an eclectic feel with retro primary colours. But poster are pretty rad.

Here are my favourite posters at the moment:

Poster #1 Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh Poster Print*. I absolutely love the painting. So much so that I got it in a 6″x4″ print. The poster to please those with a taste for more elegant or fine art.

Poster #2 We Can Do It! (Rosie the Riveter) Poster*. I am a big fan of showing off girl power. Rosie was a character created during the Second World War as a way of encouraging females to join the workplace because men were away at war.

Poster #3 Fallout 4 – Nuka Cola Poster Print*. This is a vintage looking cola poster from a video game, Fallout, that I love. It fits my colour scheme and is more along the pinup style of portraying females.

Must Have Shoes.

Must Have Shoes A Minimalist Guide To All The Shoes You Need

Ladies, you understand the reputation for women to have too many shoes but let’s get real. It is nice to have a variety. I have myself a list of must have shoes I would like to have. If you haven’t seen my clothing guide check out “Must Have Wardrobe: An 80 Piece Closet“.

This is my list of must have shoes:

  • 1 Snow Boots. A pair of practical black snow boots velcro for sure, perfect for that Canadian winter. Snowmobiling, snow fort building, heavy duty outdoor activities. The warmest boots in the world. Winter walking boots. Totally different from snow boots. Lightweight yet warm boots practical for walking around. I am still currently a student, and walking across campus then spending hours in clunky boots is not desirable.
  • 1 Winter Walking Boots. Probably tan with laces, or zippers on the inside but looks laced. Totally different from snow boots. Lightweight yet warm boots practical for walking around. I am still currently a student, and walking across campus then spending hours in clunky boots is not desirable.
  • 1 Rain Boots. I live on a farm, and muck is everywhere. Therefore, I need some knee high, black rain boots for those muddy, messy days. I need another practical pair of shoes for yet another weather environment.
  • 1 Fall Boots. I am going to put my cowboy boots here. Not necessary for everyone, however, to ride horses, which I do, it is important to have a heeled boot. Plus they look pretty nice with a fall outfit if kept clean.
  • 1 Active Runners. I have the best running shoes that I have ever owned. Nike, dark grey, gold check mark. I love them. I am not the most active, but I love to work out on the treadmill. An occasional trip to the gym, but I never seem to have the time. Again I think it is something you should have.
  • 1 Street Runners. I have a pair of Converse for when I want to wear sneakers that are not chunky but give me the same coverage and some support. Personal I don’t think it is a necessary shoe item, but I have them anyway.
  • 1 Casual Walking Flats. I have two on my list. Probably don’t need two pairs, but whatever. I live in my burgundy Toms during the summer. It is my all time favourite pair. But I’m a bit quirky so my mom a few years ago got me some bowling shoes from a thrift store. I can not get rid of them, it is my most unique clothing item despite the fact that I don’t need them.
  • 1 Dressy Flats. Black round toed ballet flats. I have very narrow feet, so point toes are a complete no go. If you have a formal occasion in which heels seem over the top or inappropriate flats are perfect. I also thing flats go best with summer dresses.
  • 1 Walking Sandals. I have a pair of Birkenstocks, they are not prettiest sandals. But the arch support is what I was looking for. A bit clunky again, for my taste, but I like sandals for an option.
  • 2 Heels. If you hate them then cross them off the list, but I like to have two pairs. One in black, one in nude. Both very classy, but goes with a wider variety of outfits. Black is a fall/winter feel, but nude keeps it light and bright for spring/summer. One can easily be used for both, but it’s my taste.
  • 1 Party Heels. A strappy black pair, or if you are less casual even glitter. Even thigh highs. New Years is the vibe. Or a club if that is more your style. But I love to go a little less classy in these environments.
  • 1 Flip Flops. The easiest to slip on, and usually super cheap. Take to the beach or camping. Even bring them for the gym showers. It is not a splurge by far.
  • 1 Slippers. My house is entirely floored with hardwood, tile in the laundry and washrooms upstairs, and the basement is a heated concrete. Some extra support and comfort is a must. I like using moccasins as slippers, but I only get them from reservations. I like supporting my community that way.
  • 1 Casual Boots. I love combat boots. Not the military grade ones, the more casual interpretation of them. They are heavy duty enough for everyday use without me needing to be concerned for wear and tear.

Is there anything on your must have shoes list I missed?

Curing Your Black Thumb.

Curing Your Black Thumb How To Get Rid Of Your Gardening Black Thumb

I have a massive love for plants. It is probably overwhelming the amount of plants I have in my home. They are always happy and healthy, however, the same can not be said for some members of my family. You know someone with a brown thumb, but we are talking black thumb, kill on contact, sad plant creators. I, as a lover of plants, find it easy to watch and care for them, but they love plants even more to the extreme. I have determined they must be cursed. It is the only possible solution.

Here are my tips for helping:

Tip #1 Don’t Buy Plants. This is for those who no matter what just can’t find the time or willpower. If you want some greenery buy face plants. Fake flowers for vases and fake trees for corners. Just avoid them.

Tip #2 Easy Plants. If you kill plants because you forget to water them succulents and cacti are your new best friends. They require little water and not often.

Tip #3 Fresh Cut Flowers. Can’t even remember that, only get plants that will eventually die and look great while doing it.

Tip #4 Location. Only put the plants where you will see them. If you walk by them every day then you can see when they need to be watered or start to look unhappy.

Tip #5 Quantity. Start off slow. Only get a few, then when you are successful only get a few more. Do not start by overwhelming yourself.

Bonus Tip: Set an alarm for when to water your plant or mark it on a calendar.

Hopefully, this helps cure your black thumb. Do you have any tips?

How to Sleep Better.

How To Sleep Better 5 Tips For A Better Sleep From An Insomniac

If you know nothing about insomnia just remember that it sucks. I have searched frantically for how to sleep better. It has been over 7 years now and let me tell you it is not easy. I only recently discovered that it is considered severe once it continues past a month. Woah. I’m 83 months past that. Boy. At first, it felt like a blessing, being able to stay up super late without the feeling of sleepiness. After a week it got old. After a month it got exhausting and after a few more it felt like a state of being. I don’t know why it started and neither do the medical professionals that helped me understand what me having insomnia means.

Basically, I don’t sleep, and when I do I don’t sleep well. There are various stages of sleep, and I do not enter deep sleep. That is when your body repairs itself and you feel well rested when you wake up. If I had to compare it to anything I guess it feels like being a zombie. Always dragging yourself around. There are good days of course but they are so few and far between that it never really changes anything. However, I am incredibly grateful that it is my biggest problem.

Here are some tips for how to sleep better:

Tip #1 Have a Comfortable Bed. I love my mattress. It is firm with about an inch of squish on t0p to make it feel like like I’m sleeping on a board. Investing in your mattress is really important. It can be the main cause of your poor sleep. I know they are expensive so I recommend waiting until the mattress you want is on sale. Usually, September Labour Day sales are the best time. While in be do not have any electronics or pets. These distractions prevent your bed from only being a place of sleep.

Tip #2 Drink Plenty of Water. Your brain is made up mostly of water. During your sleep, the brain goes through your memories, and if you are dehydrated it can affect its ability to do so. This can make you sleep poorly and feel exhausted throughout the day.

Tip #3 Eat Healthy. If you can’t eat healthy all the time, whether you have no time, or money, at least eat healthy before bed. If you feel like dirt you will likely sleep like dirt and eating healthy can help with this.

Tip #4 Exercise. If you lay in bed at night and can’t fall asleep it may be because you have too much energy. This can be prevented by exercising at least an hour before bed, to get the energy out, but not be unable to sleep since you are energised for a while after exercising.

Tip #5 Lavender Oil. I didn’t think that an essential oil could help me sleep when medicines could not. However, when I put a very small amount behind my ears and on my ankles, it created a scent that relaxes you.

Bonus Tip: White Noise. While I did not find that it helps me, my friends swear by white noise. Whether it is the sounds of the ocean or the audio of a non-exciting show it prevents you from getting lost in thoughts that could very easily be the reason you are not falling asleep.

Why Music is Important.

Why Music Is Important Integrating Music Into Your Life

This is my personal explanation of why music is important to me, and why it could be to you.

I have never really gotten into musical instruments for my entire life. In grade 5 we needed to go out and buy a recorder to play during ‘music’ class. I sucked, no one can make a $10 recorder sound good. Plus it was unusual to make a kid go out and buy an instrument for exclusively school purposes. Then in grade 6 I got a guitar and hated it. Not because I didn’t want to play guitar, I did. I have always had small soft hands and the strings absolutely shredded my fingers and it was too big to play comfortably, so good bye guitar. In grade 7 and 8 I played the saxophone, now that was neat. It was an alto so it wasn’t too big, however incredibly impractical for an everyday instrument.

I thought about why music is important. SO, finally a year ago I decided I would try once again. This time I bought a ukulele. It was somewhat inexpensive and I think it is straight up ugly but it sounds really good for the price. The only problem is staying tuned, which once I bought a tuner is a simple fix. I am absolutely awful at playing it, but I love it. The size is perfect, the sound matches my personality and the fact that it only has 4 strings is a life saver. It has taken me so many years to finally find an instrument I enjoy, and I would recommend to anyone that you try and find one for you. It can be very simple and cheap, but finding a creative release is priceless.

What you can do:

You don’t even need an instrument to create music. You can sing. I sound awful, let me tell you. But, I enjoy it. If not signing then listening. The benefits of music that I gain are an increase in creativity when listening and an increase in memorization. Also, music is a great, and free mood booster. I am instantly in a better mood upon listening. Playing the radio in the morning wakes me right up.

If you can, I would suggest finding an instrument, but if not, finding music elsewhere. Because this is why music is important.
